  1. P-38 GUNNERY PRACTICE
  2.  
  3. The P-38 Lightning fighter was one of the 
  4. most unique Allied aircraft designs to see 
  5. action during World War II.  The 
  6. prototype XP-38 made its first flight on 
  7. January 27, 1939.  Based on its promising 
  8. performance in the initial test flights, 
  9. Britain, France, and the U.S.A.A.C. placed 
  10. production orders for the new Lockheed 
  11. interceptor.  In its combat configuration, 
  12. the P-38 featured an impressive array of 
  13. firepower: four .50 caliber machine guns 
  14. and one 20 mm cannon, all mounted in the 
  15. nose for a dense concentration of fire.

  17.                     YOUR MISSION

  19. As you approach Willemstad bridge, you 
  20. encounter two pairs of fighters on patrol.  
  21. The enemy planes will not evade your 
  22. attack.  Practice your deflection shooting 
  23. techniques with the P-38's machine guns 
  24. as well as its cannon.  To be accurate in a 
  25. deflection shot, you must lead your target 
  26. so that your bullets intercept its line of 
  27. flight.

  29. Your P-38H cannot be damaged and has 
  30. unlimited ammunition.

  32. Your mission will not end automatically.  
  33. You must choose to quit.  Please see your
